What is Seemant Sanskar?
Seemant Sanskar, also written Simant or Simantonnayana Sanskar, is one of the sixteen Hindu sanskars and is celebrated during pregnancy, usually in the seventh or eighth month. Some families perform it in the fourth or sixth month, as advised by their pandit. The word "seemant" refers to the parting of the hair: in the traditional ritual, the husband gently parts his wife's hair while prayers are offered for the health of the mother and the baby. Elders fill her lap with fruit, sweets and blessings, she wears new clothes and bangles, and the whole family comes together to celebrate the next generation.
The same celebration has many names across India. Gujarati families call it Shrimant or Khodo Bharvo, Telugu and Kannada families celebrate Seemantham or Seemantha, Tamil families host a Valaikappu, Maharashtrian homes have Dohale Jevan, Bengali families call it Shaad, and in North India it is widely known as Godh Bharai. Whatever your family calls it, the decoration has one job: to create a warm, auspicious space where the mother-to-be is the centre of attention and every photo turns out beautiful.
Seemant Sanskar decoration ideas we set up
Every design on this page is a complete setup, not a DIY kit. You choose the look, and our decorators bring the materials and set everything up at your venue. Popular styles include:
- Balloon arch decoration: 150 to 200 balloons shaped into an arch with a Seemant Sanskar banner, and fairy lights or a balloon pillar in some designs. This is the most budget-friendly way to decorate.
- Customised backdrop setups: a flex backdrop printed with the mother-to-be's name, "Seemant Sanskar", "Shrimant" or your own message, framed by around 180 to 200 balloons.
- Traditional marigold decoration: artificial marigold and green-leaf garlands, hanging bells, a customised round board and fairy lights for a classic puja look.
- Banana leaf setup: a banana leaf backdrop with marigold flower garlands, a favourite for Seemantham and Valaikappu celebrations.
- Themed setups: devotional designs such as the Little Hanuman Ji theme, for families who want a spiritual touch in the decor.
- Royal, premium and ceremony setups: ring backdrops on stands, balloon pillars and cutouts, or two to three customised backdrops for society halls, banquets and big family gatherings.
Families often choose colours that feel auspicious and festive, such as yellow and marigold orange, red and gold, or soft pink and blue pastels. Use the style filters on this page (Flex, Arch, Ring, Flowers and U Shape) to compare designs quickly, and open any design to see exactly what is included.
Seemant Sanskar decoration at home
Many families celebrate Seemant at home, and a well-planned setup makes even a regular living room feel ready for a ceremony. A backdrop or arch usually sits against one wall, leaving space for the puja, the elders and the guests. When you book, add your wall size and any details about your rituals in the booking notes, such as where the puja will happen or where the mother-to-be will sit for the khodo bharvo, and the team will plan the layout around it. We decorate flats, independent homes, society clubhouses, terraces, community halls and banquet venues.

Prices can vary slightly by city, and the final amount is always shown at checkout before you pay, so there are no surprises on the day.
Personalise it for your family
No two families celebrate Seemant in exactly the same way, so personal touches matter. You can add the mother-to-be's name, a welcome line such as "Blessings for the little one", your family's favourite colours, and a backdrop message in the language you prefer. If your family follows particular customs, such as where the puja will happen, where the mother-to-be will sit, or a Gujarati Shrimant or South Indian Seemantham look, mention it while booking and we will match the decoration to your traditions as closely as possible.
Tips for planning your Seemant decoration
- Fix the muhurat first. Once the puja time is set, choose a ready-by window that leaves time for family photos before the rituals begin.
- Measure the wall. Note the width of the wall where the backdrop will go and keep some floor space in front of it for the mother-to-be, the puja and the elders.
- Match the colours to the outfit. If the mother-to-be is wearing a green, yellow or red saree, a marigold or traditional setup looks beautiful in photos; pastel balloon setups suit lighter outfits.
- Plan the seating. Keep the area around the backdrop clear so everyone fits into the family photos.
