Mickey and Minnie Theme Decoration for Birthdays and Naming Ceremonies

Mickey and Minnie is the oldest theme on this list and still one of the most booked. Part of the reason is simple recognition - the two ears are the easiest shape in the world to spot, so even a one year old reacts to it. The other reason is range. It is one of the few themes that suits a boy or a girl, works from a first birthday to about eight years, and does not look childish in family photographs.

The palettes are different, though, so decide early. Mickey runs on red, yellow and black. Minnie runs on pink, white and black with polka dots. A joint Mickey and Minnie setup uses both sides of the wall, one palette each, which is what most parents book for twins or for siblings sharing a party.

What Goes Into a Mickey or Minnie Theme Setup

Ears balloon backdrop - the balloon garland is built with two large clusters at the top corners so the whole backdrop reads as ears. It is the cheapest way to make a setup unmistakably Mickey, and a good decorator will do it without being asked.

Those functions have adult guests and are usually photographed formally, so a loud cartoon setup looks out of place. For a single birthday, pick one. A Minnie setup for a girl or a Mickey setup for a boy is stronger than a split wall, because one palette used properly always looks better than two halves. Book both only when there is a real reason - twins, siblings sharing a party, or a parent who wants the classic pair. In that case the wall is divided down the middle, red and yellow on one side, pink and white on the other, with the two cutouts meeting in the centre.
